Check Out the 2003 Toyota Camry Specs and How much it cost in Nigeria

2003-Toyota-Camry

For 2003 Toyota have presented before us a solid version of the Toyota Camry. This one has surely beaten the competition. Excellence is simply a priority for this car.

The Toyota Camry rates top in the auto industry, probably owing to its name ‘Camry’, which when translated means ‘crown’ in the Japanese language. That justifies why the Camry thrives in the market, outselling big car brands like the Ford Taurus, Honda Accord, among many others.

For 2003, what is presented before us is a solid car that outperforms everyone, while on the road. It dashes quite smoothly, even over upbeat cities. That’s just speaking of one aspect. Talk of the interior! It’s ergonomic in its dealing. The seats are all cushy, and there are big buttons and controls that are convenient to use and to adjust to. Excellence is simply a priority for this car and it definitely didn’t come to play.

The exterior is welcoming with an extended wheelbase, increasing back seat legroom as a result. What else do we get to see? A tall, well-rounded car keeps up with its contemporary fashion and innovation. Toyota has always proven to be upscale, durable and reliable. Let’s see why they have trended thus far, in this review of the 2003 Camry.

Exterior

The Toyota Camry for 2003 was definitely revised and it’s not hard to tell that it’s a Toyota model, since it carries the outlook. What’s been changed however, are the taillights, the front bumper, the grille, the rear deck and the wheels. The front fascia has a better looking appearance. That’s thanks to the stylish manner in which it cuts through to the grille. The pronounced wheel arches are also a delight to notice. It also comes with heated side mirrors, fog lights, Halogen headlamps and tilted glass sunroof.

Safety & Technology

The Camry inhabits a Vehicle Skid Control system that knows just how to urgently direct the throttle and braking in a time of emergency. Power locks, remote keyless entry, first-rate springs, anti-roll bars, shocks, anti-lock brakes, brake assist, side impact and curtain airbags, electronic brake distribution etc. are all in place. That informs how safe the vehicle actually is.

Other high-tech options it hosts within it are power mirrors, power windows, automatic air conditioning, visor vanity mirrors, a premium leather-laced steering wheel, larger, attractive wheels; power driver seats, cushy passenger 60/40 split seats, an alarm system, a back window-sunshade, cargo net, six-disc CD changer, a JBL audio system, power pedals, and tons of mind-blowing lots.

Now that you know, you can be sure of a safe, remarkable buy.  The 2003 model is super fascinating with a lot of dramatic features to support that, so you can be sure it’s not a boring car. The Camry will continue to be loved, by all and sundry. That’s why you’d love it too.

Engine & Performance

The Toyota Camry is produced in three trim levels: the LE, the XLE and the SE models and all models come in the sedan body style. Each one is available with two choice engines: the four-cylinder and the V6. The four-cylinder engine is rated at a 2.4 liter, 16-valve twin-overhead-cam unit, at a 157 horsepower at 5600 rpm. The 3.0 liter V6 engine, on the other hand generates a maximum of 192 horsepower at 5,800 rpm. Both come along with an automatic transmission. The LE model accelerates from 0-60 mph in just 9.5 seconds, which is a handsome number considering what its competition offer. Toyota vehicles always deliver considerably good fuel economy and that is the case with the 2003 Camry. The LE trim offers fuel economy rating of 23 mpg city and 33 mpg for highway travel using its 5 speed manual transmission. The 3.0 liter V6 XLE model delivers a slightly lower fuel economy rating, settling at 20 mpg city and 28 mpg highway travel.

The Toyota’s driving impression is one that is really cool. Its engine is quiet, not releasing any unpleasant noise. Another very cool stuff about this 2003 Camry is its ability to predict when it is approaching a hilly road. That way, it’s able to pre-empt any problems by shifting gears.

Thanks to its precise and well-tuned suspension system, you can trust that your ride will be just pleasant. The steering is well designed, making it not soft hard or neither too easy to turn. The keep word here is “Balance”. Its braking system is superb, taking care of emergency situations where the vehicle must be stable on seemingly difficult roads.
Prices
The base four-cylinder LE trim is priced at $19,045 for a five-speed manual transmission, while the LE V6 model with either the four-speed automatic or 5 speed automatic transmission is up a few bucks to $22,260.  The SE trim on the other hand, commands a sporty look; and goes for $19,875 with its standard 5 speed manual transmission and $23,265 for the SE V6 trim with 4 or 5 speed automatic transmission. The last and ultimate version of them all is the XLE that comes with 4 speed automatic transmission as standard starts at a $25,405 and same price for the 5 speed automatic transmission.

Toyota Corolla 2002 price in Nigeria, trims, versions, pros, and cons

1. Introduction

Nigerians love Toyota cars; the Camry, Rav4, Avalon, Yaris. We love them and simply adore the Toyota Corolla. The Toyota Corolla is one of the most sold vehicles in the world according to statistics. By 2013, the Corolla had sold 40 million units since 1966 - its first manufacture year, and the best-selling car by 1974. Toyota as a brand is the most searched online in Nigeria. Along with the Toyota Camry, it is Nigeria's most popular car brand.

The Corolla started life as a sub-compact sedan until 1991 when it transitioned into a compact sedan, a status it has maintained till date, making it the best selling car ever internationally.

Called the Toyota Karōra in Japanese, the name ”Corolla” is actually Latin for “small crown”. This is because Toyota named all its sedans after its popular Toyota Crown model. There have been 12 generations of the Corolla ending with the 12th gen corolla hatchback Auris and the station wagon, the Corolla Touring Sports in 2018.

Today, let's be with NaijaToyota reviewing the Toyota Corolla 2002 price, trims, versions, pros, and cons!

The Toyota Corolla is one of Nigeria's best-selling cars, including the 2002 model

2. Why is the Toyota Corolla popular in Nigeria?

  1. Cheap: The Toyota Corolla is a relatively cheap car when compared to its competitors such as the Ford Focus or and the Honda Civic. This makes it an easy choice for small income groups.
  2. Easy to maintain: The Corolla is also very easy to maintain and at very low costs. Since the vehicle does not require frequent, expensive tunes up and servicing, it is the ideal car for developing countries like Nigeria.
  3. Fuel economy: The Corolla is fuel-efficient. The figures given officially are 38 mpg (miles per gallon) on the highway or expressway. This compares very favorably with the Camry’s 34 mpg.
  4. Cheap parts: Cheap and readily available parts are another reason that endears this car to its owners. You don’t need to break the bank every time your mechanic tells you something needs to do with your Corolla.
  5. Resale value: No matter how old a Corolla is, it pretty much still has a second-hand value in Nigeria. This is a great plus that contributes to the car’s popularity, as you can use and sell when you need to upgrade.
  6. Safety: Definitely.
  7. Availability of auto mechanics: Some cars lack adequately trained auto mechanics to handle periodic repairs and servicing. Not the Corolla; there are local mechanics knowledgeable about the Corolla in every nook and cranny of Nigeria.
  8. Durable on Nigerian roads and acclimatized: The Corolla is near to perfect for Nigerian roads and its climate. Nigeria’s roads are not always the smoothest, and this car does a great job of taking all the knocks and still holding together.

3. Trims of the Toyota Corolla 2002

The Corolla 2002 offers 3 trim levels. The base trim CE, the sporty S, and the top of the line LE. The trims come with either 5-speed manual transmission or 3-4 speed auto transmission depending on the trim.

4. Versions of the Toyota Corolla 2002

Though the Toyota Corolla 2002 is one of the most popular Toyota car models you will find on Nigerian streets, most Nigerians are not aware that the Toyota Corolla comes in different versions some of which were never marketed for the African market.

Some of the more popular versions of the Corolla are the Sprinter (badge engineered that later became the Alex), Corolla Ceres hardtop, Sprinter Marino, Corolla Levin (a coupe), and Sprinter Trueno (a hatchback version that became the RunX). Both the Levin and Trueno were replaced by the Auris. The Auris was known by that name only in Japan initially, but recently Toyota introduced a new Auris for the international market.

Another version is the compact MPV named the Corolla Verso which was released in Europe. The fairly well-known Toyota Matrix is actually a version officially known as the Toyota Corolla Matrix.

6. Toyota Corolla 2002 Trivia

The Corolla 2000 has shown amazing staying power since its manufacture. Competitors to the 2002 model like the Chevrolet Prizm have since been discontinued. Both car models were built in the same factory in the US at the same time.

Many banks and government institutions have periodically used the Toyota Corolla as official cars for staff.

7. Hits and Misses of the Toyota Corolla 2002

7.1. Hits:

The Corolla is a reliable, low-cost compact sedan suitable for a small family or individual use. It hardly ever requires constant maintenance and is amazingly fuel-efficient. It also has a smooth ride and side airbags, unusual for a compact sedan. You can even augment the fuel economy in the Toyota Corolla 2002 if following these maintenance tips.

7.2. Misses:

The 2002 Corolla is fairly seen as lackluster and lacks the bells and whistles that many have come to expect from a car in its class. Even usually basic extras or features such as Radio cassette, power windows, and air conditioning are all optional in the 2002 Corolla, even in the top of the line trim, LE.  Also, the 2002 model is far from easy on the eyes, and not pretty. It also does not have much cargo space or legroom, though that is expected for a compact sedan.

8. Who needs a Toyota Corolla 2002?

  1. First car owners who are on the lower rung of their careers will find the cheap and easily maintained Corolla a great bargain for a first car. It is easy on the pocket, and very reliable.
  2. A small family of not more than 5 will also find the 2002 model a good choice for a car.
  3. Also buy the 2002 Corolla for company mid-level executives because it is cheap to maintain and fuel-efficient, thereby reducing the company’s overhead monthly.
  4. The Corolla 2002 will do excellently well for taxi services like Uber or Bolt (formerly Taxify), although you will need the AC option. The fuel economy makes it ideal for maximum profits.
  5. Government institutions are always about saving public funds and the Corolla 2002 will do this quite efficiently with their cheap maintenance and low fuel consumption.

Toyota-Corolla-2002-moving

As any other Toyota car, the Toyota Corolla 2002 can be easily fixed with low maintenance cost

9. Common problems of the Toyota Corolla 2002

  1. Problematic dashboard and electronic panel.
  2. Uneven tire wear.
  3. Some wind noise at high speeds.
  4. Noisy breaks.
  5. Sometimes transmission problems.

10. Conclusion

The Toyota Corolla 2002 price proves itself to be a great car choice when finance is an issue and a low-cost maintenance car is required. Of course, a vehicle cannot evade flaws but let's agree they are all excusable.

THE TRUTH ABOUT THE 2018 TOYOTA CAMRY/ A REVIEW

I got so lucky last weekend to have driven the 2018 Toyota Camry SE edition given to be my a car dealer friend I met on Instagram. I have thousands of exterior pictures of the present Camry generation on my phone. The XSE trim makes me turn my head whenever it passes on the road. Now, Toyota has introduced the 2020 Camry to TRD (TOYOTA RACING DEVELOPMENT) for a factory redesign on the car and be sold as the highest level trim with The XSE coming in at second from 2020.

The SE trim I drove is the third-highest trim you can get from the 2018 Camry series so yeah! this review is very valid. Toyota Camry has managed to be the second-highest selling Toyota car in Nigeria because of its easy maintenance culture and simple looking design. Right now, the design has shifted from simple to a Lexus type of look. I hope you know Lexus is a subsidiary company to Toyota? here is the truth about the 2018 Toyota Camry from the angle of the SPORTS EDITION trim.

Before we continue, all the trims available on the 2018 Camry are:

HYBRID LE, HYBRID SE, L, LE, SE, XLE and SE.

The exterior has a lot of aerodynamic features just to give it a better grip on the ground as it drives through Nigerian wind that would want to lift the car and make you experience fear of rolling over.

The other trims also have aerodynamic features in place but it's not as pronounced as the one on the SE/XSE trim. That rear diffuser just creates a statement from the rear of which says " I AM NOT YOUR REGULAR CAMRY". rear diffusers only come with the SE/XSE. The optional automatic headlights with high beam LEDs are very sleek and perfectly fit into that front fascia that looks like a spider spreading all its tentacles.

No matter the colour of the CAMRY you want, it comes with a 2 tone exterior design with black as the constant colour across all trims. Black detailing is always a thing to look forward to on cars and the Camry has it's own coming straight from the factory with the lower front bumper grille. Can't believe Toyota didn't fit fog lights on this car.

The taillights look very beautiful especially with the beautification from the fake air vents on the rear bumper just below the light. This car seats on an 18 inches 2 tone alloy rims(gloss black and chrome). The rims vary from trim to trim.

The base engine on this car is a 2.5 litre 4 cylinder engine coupled to an 8-speed automatic transmission and this union produces 203 hp while the XSE trim harnesses a 3.5l v6 engine to produce 301hp. The base engine has a 32mpg rating for fuel consumption so don't be scared, it is very economical and it even has an ECO driving mode.

The hybrid comes with a Continuous Variable Transmission and 2 electric motors so that you burn less fuel while driving this car, especially in the city.

I love the exterior of this car because the design is a very unique one, Toyota put so much work into the design. They wanted to call back all their sports car lover fans with this design and I feel they have succeeded.

On opening the car with the not so fine keyfob, I noticed something strange. The interior wasn't the type that would make Nigerians scream "MAD O" it was just there. I was expecting a very sleek kind of interior with decorations I have never seen just like how the exterior stood out but honestly, the interior looked just average. The choice of materials used on the interior decoration feels random and not properly mixed and it makes me question why Toyota did that.

Here is the link to a video I made on my instagram on the features of the  2018 TOYOTA CAMRY FEATURES

The centre console has buttons around the infotainment screen with a new feature called "ENTUNE". This car lacks ANDROID CONNECT or APPLE PLAY so the ENSUITE is an app that has a phone version that you need to pair the car and infotainment together. This is very stressful if you ask me, so I would rather just use the Bluetooth connection option and mind my business.

The steering is well designed with a lot of buttons present as controls for the car. On the steering, there is a voice command button and it was at this point I knew that even with my Nigerian English accent, I could talk to this car to do a lot of things on the infotainment like play music, dial numbers, open apps and ask for directions very cool right? there are a lot of buttons on this car and I am not a big fan of that.

The CAMRY also has ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL that makes you semi-auto pilot this car. It keeps a safe distance between the next car while you do nothing.

I love the way the collision and assistive braking work hand in hand. Once the car detects you are trying to brake suddenly, it shuts off music/infotainment sound playing and starts a warning sound just to make you focus on the road more then it assists by braking for you faster than you would normally brake while displaying on the instrument cluster a red braking sign.

The car also has LANE DEPARTURE ASSIST and ACTVE STEERING ASSIST.

The suspension on this car damped me well and for a moment, I thought it was air suspension. It drives very smoothly with acceleration doing 0 to 60mph in over 6 seconds. It's not a boring car, so it has sports mode across all trims and a paddle shifter exclusive to the sports trims only. I love the leather-wrapped gear shift lever.

The sports mode didn't feel more powerful than normal mode but it keeps the RPMs up as you switch between gears while shifting up which is the best way to hit high speeds in this car. The car doesn't sound powerful at all so don't expect any fast car sound with this car.

The visibility from the driver's seat is perfect and the seats are very large and comfortable. The car has a standard amount of room to boast of, the only passenger that might complain is the middle rear seater because I was a little tight there.

The trunk is slightly bigger than previous generations and it opens automatically fully open when you press the button on the remote.

The CAMRY is perfect for Nigerians with families because of space and easy interior controls. This car sells in Nigeria Tokunbo market between 11-14 million nairas. It's a car that would serve you all its purpose without stress and maintenance is available all around you with parts coming into the country daily to the car parts market. So far, this car hasn't been developing a general fault so it's a very safe buy.

The main competitor of this car is the Honda Accord and I have driven that too so expect a comparison much later.

Pros and Cons of the best sellers in Nigeria: The Toyota Camry

The Toyota Camry has been a best-selling car for several years in Nigeria. This fact is understandable as at least 4 in every 10 drivers have driven a Toyota Camry at some point in their lives.

Nigerians naturally love Toyota cars because it is assumed “Japanese technology” and on that note, they perceive Toyota cars to be the most durable, reliable, easy to maintain and, most popular on the list, fuel-efficient.

While all the above submissions are not entirely false and as you might already know, every model of a car in the market has the peculiarities that apply to it and it alone. You can click here to see more cars for sale in nigeria

1. Pros of Toyota Camry

In this article, we’ll be focusing on the pros and cons of the Toyota Camry. Loosely put, this refers to reasons you will love a Camry and other reasons why you are likely going to hate it.

Toyota-Camry-angular-front

All models of Toyota Camry are best-sellers in Nigeria

Stay with us as we unveil every pro and con that has been connected with the Toyota Camry over the years.

1.1. Spacious interior

The Toyota Camry is dubbed a midsize car, most models of the Camry seats on an extended wheelbase. What that means is that most Toyota Camry models are a bit longer than other midsize sedans of a similar class.

Toyota-Camry-interior

Toyota Camry models boast of spacious interiors

Also, all Toyota Camry models are equipped with roomy seating capacity for 5 persons including their accompanying loads. Storage cubbies such as cup and place holders also form part of the spacious design of the Toyota Camry. Everyone loves plenty of room for “everything” and this endears Camry as a great midsize car for families.

2.2. Performance

The Toyota Camry comes in four-cylinder and V6 engines which are generally strong and durable. Toyota engines paired with appropriate transmissions produce one of the best engine performances, offering one of the industry best fuel economy ratings and the ability to accelerate from 0-60 mph to be faster than most of its competition.

To be specific, a 2019 Toyota Camry XLE V6 can go 0-60 mph in 6.0 seconds as against a Hyundai Elantra Limited of the same model year which can accelerate 0-60 mph in approximately 9.0 seconds.

Over the years, the Toyota Camry has also metamorphosed from an ordinary four-cylinder family taxi to speedy V6 bots promising a sporty undertone to its drivers.

On the side of fuel efficiency, between the top three Toyota sedans with best economy ratings for 2020, the 2019 Toyota Camry with an EPA rating of 41 mpg highway is in the middle between 2019 Toyota Prius with 53 mpg highway and 2020 Toyota Corolla with 37 mpg highway.

2.3. Maintenance Cost

This pro is top on the list of why Nigerians love Toyota Camry. Its maintenance cost is relatively cheap depending on the model year you own.

This trend has a lot to do with the best-seller status of the Toyota Camry which means its spare parts are readily available in plenteous supply to meet high demand by customers.

Camry-engine

The Toyota Camry generally requires low maintenance cost

Although apart from having low maintenance costs, most Toyota Camry cars hardly break down completely during its productive mileage years.

2.4. Second-hand value

The pros and cons of Toyota Camry reaffirm that its perceived durability status in the global market is not just a myth. There have been confirmed reports of Toyota Camrys which have put 300,000 miles on its odometers and still waxing strong. The implication of this information is that the Toyota Camry has good second-hand value for buyers who cannot afford to buy a brand new version.

It is no news that at least 80% of cars on Nigerian roads were purchased as tokunbo (foreign-used) at a time. This places the Toyota Camry as a highly sought after car in the tokunbo car market.

2.5. Sleek design

In addition to Camry’s spacious interior, it also boasts of a quite sleek exterior. Every generation of the Toyota Camry ever produced came with its own unique design placing it on top position for lovers of sleek looking automobiles.

angular-front-of-the-Toyota-Camry

The recent model Toyota Camry boast of very sleek designs

The 2017- till date models of the Camry were built on a completely new body design never seen before. For instance, the 2018 Toyota Camry was built with TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform.

Design-wise, the recent models of the Toyota Camry began taking a luxury vehicle appearance endearing it to lovers of luxury vehicles

2. Cons of Toyota Camry

Just with everything that has pros, the Toyota Camry has its own fair share of cons for which buyers have experienced dislike for it. Let’s look at what they are below.

2.1. Too plain interior

Most people feel that its interior is too plain and needs a lot of touchups to fit with the expected sophistication of such a highly rated sedan. But, is that really a con one would choose above every other feature? Some other owners argue that the Camry offers a boring experience.

2.2. Left tilt

There have been a number of reports of Camry tilting to he left after a while without having anything to do with the alignment. Drivers observed that their Camrys became a little lower on the left than the right. While some suspect this has something to do with an easily worn coil spring, this claim remains unsubstantiated.

2.3. Easily stolen

Owing to the popular nature of the Toyota Camry, it is a commonly stolen vehicle. Car thieves are always devising means to burgling Toyota Camry. The reason for this is that its engine and other parts are easily sold off into the waiting hands of ready buyers.

If not dismantled, it can be easily refurbished and resold as a fairly used car to an unsuspecting car buyer. When buying a Toyota Camry, it is advised that you take extra care to do due diligence, especially when buying a non-brand new one.

3. Conclusion

From our discussion of pros and cons of Toyota Camry, you can see that the Toyota Camry is a great choice for drivers of every class. Whatever spec you might be looking for in a modern sedan can easily be found in one Toyota Camry or another. Information on Toyota model reviews and pricing are also readily available to help you make an informed buy.
